TRADITIONAL LIME POINTING
Let old walls
breathe and endure.
Many traditional stone and solid-wall buildings were constructed using lime-based mortars. Where appropriate, a compatible lime mortar can help retain the character of the masonry and allow moisture vapour to move through the joints.
We take care to consider the existing stone or brick, the original mortar, exposure and condition before undertaking repointing. The aim is a finish that sits comfortably with the building rather than fighting against it.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Questions about
stonework?
Is lime mortar better than cement mortar?
Neither is universally better. Traditional lime mortar is often more compatible with older solid-wall masonry, while cement-based mortars may be appropriate in some modern construction. The existing materials and condition should guide the choice.
Can you repoint an old stone wall?
Yes, subject to inspecting its condition and understanding the existing mortar and masonry. The preparation method, mortar specification and finish need to be appropriate for the wall.
Can you repair an existing garden or boundary wall?
We undertake a range of wall repairs and masonry improvements. The extent of the work will depend on the wall's condition, stability, access and any underlying issues.
